Uppsala Vancomycin Sensors (U.V.S.)  is the name of the Uppsala University SensUs team that participated in the competition of 2018.

Topic of 2018:

With the overuse of antibodies running rampant across the world, the threat of drug-resistant bacteria grows day-by-day. With our first-line antibiotics quickly becoming ineffective, we are forced more and more to use our “last resort” antibiotics. Vancomycin is one such antibiotic. While very effective against certain strains of bacteria, it can potentially have harmful side-effects if the dosage is not carefully controlled.

This is where we come in! We aim to design a cheap, yet reliable biosensor which will enable patients to easily track the amount of Vancomycin in their body. With that, we hope this form of convenient monitoring will help patients decide the correct dosage when it is needed.
